There are many benefits of regular sun exposure — including Vitamin D production. 3 out of 4 Americans are Vitamin D deficient. This is not only harming us physically and mentally, it’s costing the healthcare system that sustains us billions of dollars annually.
The Vitamin D Council's mission has been to educate patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals about the importance of Vitamin D and the latest research findings to improve the quality and length of life.
The lack of sun exposure is the main root cause of Vitamin D deficiency, and studies have found that people with low Vitamin D are at a higher risk of many serious diseases such as cardiovascular disease, breast & colorectal cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and even infections, flu, and colds.
The benefits of sunlight may extend beyond its ability to slay COVID-19 outside the body. When people are exposed to UV light, this may cause changes inside the human body that both strengthen the immune system and block COVID-19 from replicating and causing illness.
We need light to feel energized and happy. Our mood and energy depend upon getting sufficient bright light during the day to signal ‘awake and alert.' Without this signal, our bodies can’t distinguish night and day and don’t provide the energy and hormones we need to feel our best.
The link between severe Vitamin D deficiency and rickets or osteomalacia is overwhelming.
It is projected that the incidence of many of these diseases could be reduced by 20%-50% if the occurrence of Vitamin D deficiency was eradicated.
